A lecture taking place at the University of Worcester will challenge how people in care are looked after.
The inaugural lecture by Professor Keith Brown will focus on the issues related to care for vulnerable citizens.
The lecture, taking place on September 11th and entitled “Caring for Vulnerable Citizens: A Dilemma in a Time of Austerity”, will review some of the recent press stories and consider the way vulnerable people have been let down by the ‘system’.
Professor Keith Brown hopes it will challenge how people in care are looked after.
“Vulnerable citizens can often be seen as a ‘cost’ or ‘bed-blocker’ rather than unique and valuable human beings,” he said. “The lecture will consider the role that the profession of social work plays in protecting them.”
The lecture is based on Professor Brown’s research on developing a National Leadership and Management Development Pathway for front-line social work managers.
Professor Brown’s work is published in over 25 text books and he is known to be a regular speaker at national and international conferences.
Professor Keith Brown is a member of the Learn to Care National Executive Committee and is part of various professional and government body committees. His experience in education and training for universities and local authorities is over 25 years. He is currently Director of the Centre for Post Qualifying Social Work at Bournemouth University and a visiting lecturer in Social Work at the University of Worcester.
