The Hive has been selected as the West Midlands’ ‘flag-ship’ library for this year’s World Book Night on Wednesday 23 April.
Europe’s first fully integrated public and university library will be hosting a free sports-themed evening with circuit games, prizes, heaps of book giveaways and a celebrity line up, including Red Dwarf star Robert Llewellyn, cyclist, author and TV presenter Rob Penn, as well as local sporting heroes.
The Hive World Book Night Games 2014 will see a host of activities for all ages to take part in, including the opportunity to meet players from Worcester Warriors and Worcester City Football Club and join in their quiz and challenges, book tickets for the ‘silent disco’, take part in the ‘Teen Twitter Take Over’ with famous teen authors Anne Cassidy and Annabel Pitcher, and watch a performance by comedian Robert Llewellyn.
The event will run from 4.30pm to 9pm comprising of a sports circuit around the Hive with fun contests run by Worcester Racecourse, Worcester Warriors, Worcester City Football Club, and Worcester Rowing Club to promote reading through sport.
World Book Night uses passionate readers to encourage those who don’t regularly read for pleasure to give reading a go.
The Hive won the regional ‘flag ship’ status after a successful bid to showcase the iconic building and present a fun event for the local community to join in the celebration of World Book Night.
Tickets for the ‘Silent Disco’, screening of ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’, and performance by Robert Llewellyn are free and can be collected from The Hive, level 1 information pod in the atrium.
