I am the Midwifery Lecturer Practitioner for Worcester University. I have trained as both a Nurse and a Midwife and have been a Midwife for 14 years. During my career I have worked in all clinical areas including several years as a core member on a Midwifery Led unit. In addition to my clinical role, I have been a research Midwife facilitating national and International research studies. I also have several years experience as a Practice Development Midwife. My role in practice development involved coordinating and facilitating the education program to all maternity staff, coordinating and leading guideline development and supporting newly qualified midwives in their preceptorship. I am a Faculty and committee member for the PROMPT maternity foundation and I enjoy training maternity professionals in emergency maternity skills. I am passionate about advocating for women’s informed choices. I love both teaching and working clinically.

Teaching & Research

Teaching

I currently predominantly teach on the year two modules as part of the BSc Midwifery program. I facilitate skills throughout all cohorts on the course and as part of a team teaching approach to teaching I facilitate resource sessions throughout the curriculum. I also teach clinically in all placement areas on a regular basis. The sessions in practice are often student led and, therefore, the content varies according to student need.

I have a particular interest in emergency skills, suturing, fetal monitoring, facilitating normality, maternity culture, reflection, empowerment of women and informed choice.

My past teaching experience includes:

Practice Development Midwife, Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Trust. Teaching obstetric emergencies, Newborn Examination, Suturing, Neonatal life support, Manual handling, Cannulation and other key clinical skills.
