David started working in healthcare on his 17th birthday as ‘Youth Opportunity Program’ Nursing Auxiliary Assistant. That year long experience working in older adult in his hometown, provided David with most of his professional values.

David completed his Mental Health Nurse training in Forensic Psychiatry in Berkshire. This training taught him about the need to develop trusting therapeutic relationships, in all care environments. David's adult branch registration was completed at University College Hospital over 18 months. This provided him with many clinical skills, used in his main clinical speciality, ‘Neuropsychiatry’ over the next 15 years!

David worked at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queen Square from 1989 to 2000, with 2 breaks in between at the Hughlings Jackson unit. This unit is where UK Neurologists and Psychiatrists refer clients for diagnosis, of complex biological and psychological conditions. Later, David worked in Child Psychiatry in Mount Saini Hospital in New York, from 1992 – 1995. Here he observed the use of ‘dual systems’ to effect positive change, in traumatised 4 – 12-year-old children.

David received a commendation for teaching in 1994 and won the Psychiatry staff recognition award in 1995. The prize being an ‘interest free’ MSc at Columbia University, paid for by the Hebrew Free Loan Society.

David's final 4 years in clinical practice was at The Maudsley Hospital, where he worked as: Practice Development Nurse, Senior Clinical Charge Nurse, Unit Manager and Emergency Team Leader, sometimes all at once!
