Prior to studying at the University of Worcester as a mature student, Gemma gained a scholarship to one of the most prestigious dance colleges in the UK, Laine Theatre Arts. Upon qualifying as a professional dancer and dance teacher, she enjoyed many professional dance contracts throughout the UK and Europe. To complement these skills, Gemma achieved fitness qualifications, and began to teach studio classes and undertook personal training. For the next six years, she successfully worked in the health and fitness industry, in both the private and public sectors.
Progressing from personal trainer roles, Gemma quickly advanced to Fitness and Studio Manager positions in flagship, central London health and fitness chains. Whilst in these roles, she was requested to assist and implement her strategies in the opening of two new Fitness First London clubs; Covent Garden and Queen Victoria Street.
Following this Gemma worked in the Occupational Health Department of St.Mary’s Hospital, London as a NHS Health and Fitness Advisor. This role included rehabilitation and physical fitness work with HIV patients, Cardiac Phase IV, Vascular, and Heart Failure Groups, as well as ongoing rehabilitation programmes for Physiotherapy and Occupational Health referrals.
Gemma has now worked at the University since 2006 and thoroughly enjoys being part of the team within the Institute of Sport and Exercise Science.
