When Ellisse began her degree, she had no idea how much it would shape her interests and lead to an exciting career.
During her second year, Ellisse developed an interest in human resource management and explored the possibility of taking a placement year eventually leading to a year in HR at Bosch Thermotechnology Ltd.
"I received brilliant support from my placement tutors, academic tutor and careers department who helped me to work on my interview technique in order to attain a good placement and to prepare fully for my year in industry" says Ellisse.
Inspired by her year in work and keen to further her knowledge and people skills, Ellisse continued to focus on HR in her final year but also took a module in Public Relations to further extend her skillset. Ellisse so impressed Bosch, that she continued to work for them part-time during her final year of study and was then offered her a full time job as an HR Development Coordinator when she graduated - a role which she describes as “amazing”.
Ellisse acknowledges that taking a placement year was the key to her future career. “For me the placement scheme was an incredible success. It is a great way of preparing yourself for the world outside University and ensures that the foundations of experience required in the workplace, such as good communication, team working, initiative and tenacity, are learnt and practiced. It provides you with marketable skills as well as practical knowledge to make you the best candidate that you can be for future employment.”
