Banking and healthcare

Healthcare

There is a doctor’s surgery within walking distance of the University as well as an on-campus medical attendant.

For more information about the doctor's surgery closest to campus please visit www.stjohnshousesurgery.co.uk or call 0844 848 1610 for an appointment. You will need to register with a doctors surgery before gaining an appointment, though this will not take more than 10 minutes.

If you have a medical emergency during your stay here, you can make your own way to the nearest Accident and Emergency centre or if someone is in need of urgent emergency medical attention dial 999 for emergency services.

EEA and EU nationals can receive National Health Service (NHS) care while you are in the UK.

If your stay is less than 6 months, and you hold an E128 form, you can receive NHS treatment. Form E128 is available from the health authority in your own country. You must obtain this form before you arrive in the UK or you may not qualify for free treatment.

If you are here for 6 months or more, you can receive treatment from NHS hospitals and doctors.

Banking

As an international student there are many good reasons for getting a UK bank account. It can make it easier for paying your fees, as well as give you easy access to money whenever you need it.

There are two cashpoints on campus, one located in the main reception and one in the Students' Union, near the bar.

There are many banks in the local area, most of which offer accounts specifically for international students.
