The post holder will:
Assist the Grounds Team in the general grounds maintenance of all University Sites, not only to support the University Development plans, but also to put customer satisfaction as a prime performance target. This post is predominantly based at St Johns Site with the Grounds Team however; the post holder will be required to work on any of the other University Sites as and when required within the Campus Services Team.
This position will be running alongside a recognised horticulture course in conjunction with Pershore College and the post holder will be expected to attend on days specified.
Training: The position offers a combination of “on the job” training working alongside experienced colleagues, and paid day release to Pershore College to undertake the following formal qualification:
Work Based Learning Diploma level 2 in Horticulture.
The role is suitable for people qualified up to level 3 (e.g. A level) and the minimum requirement is 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English. The successful candidate will attend Pershore College and will need to be available to attend an initial 2 day induction. You will need to be able to travel independently to college and agreed travel expenses will be paid.

The Henwick Grove site in St Johns is located close to the city centre in Worcester and is within 43 acres. It is characterised by relatively low-density development with non-residential and residential buildings of a range of ages and designs. There are extensive playing fields and the campus is attractively landscaped. The residential student Halls provides 789 bed spaces.
The second site in the City Centre is the former Worcester Royal Infirmary, which is vacant following the relocation of the hospital. The site has an area of 22 hectares, is within walking distance of the St Johns site at Henwick Grove and has potential for a mixed use development and currently has student Halls providing 176 bed spaces.
The University also have a number of satellite sites ranging from a sport arena and sports fields to accommodation.
Campus Services are based within the Facilities Department, which covers a wide range of services within University of Worcester, including Halls of Residence, Cleaning, Estates, Porters, Grounds, Reception, Commercial bookings and Catering. We also work very closely with Student Services supporting the University Community Development Workers.
Students living and studying on campus come from a range of backgrounds, cultures and communities and the primary task of the Facilities department is to ensure all University of Worcester students live in a harmonious, secure, tolerant and respectful environment conducive to learning and personal development.
- Main duties
1. To carry out day-to-day tidying of all areas on any allocated University Site.
2. To carry and communicate via a two-way radio communication system.
3. To use mechanical machinery such as mowers, hedge cutters, strimmers, etc.
4. To report damage and breakages to the Grounds Manager.
5. To remove day to day waste materials for recycling and confidential waste from pre- determined collection points. To transport the waste to compactors and skips.
6. To empty litter bins around campus daily and undertake patrols of all areas of the University’s sites and car parks. Where appropriate, to clear litter using pedestrian and mechanical sweepers.
7. To be responsible and provide assistance and when fire/intruder/panic alarms sound.
8. To carry out general grounds maintenance such as grass cutting or weeding.
9. To work with the Grounds Team on any major or minor grounds improvement using whatever tools are applicable.
10. To Contribute towards ideas and improvements for the University Grounds
11. To assist where possible to the University biodiversity action plan.
12. To carry out any driving duties as directed by the Grounds Manager.
13. To undertake any additional training required for the role.
14. To assist with the removal of snow and ice from paths, doorways and roadways.
