Your feedback

We really value your feedback and comments about our services. You have given us feedback in a variety of different ways including through questionnaires after specific events, through course reps and from the Students Union change week.  We do listen to your feedback and take action where we can. Below is an overview of your feedback in the academic year 2018/19, and how we have responded to your specific comments.

A big change this year has been the introduction of myCareer which offers one portal for Careers appointments and events bookings and job vacancies. We feel that this has addressed many of the issues you mentioned below but will continue to look for your views and comments on it throughout the year, so that it really works for you.

Careers Appointments

Of those who have attended careers appointments, 92% felt clearer about your next steps, and about promoting yourselves in applications/interviews, whilst 96% would recommend the service to others.

It was good to see so much positive feedback such as

"the appointments with the service have helped me to grow in confidence along with the awareness of my skills, experience and knowledge on how to spot an interview question and answer it in an appropriate way. The process has been so valuable for me’

‘the lady saw was wonderful – I was quite tearful and very helpful, stressed and she was so understanding and gave me all the information to ease my concerns’

‘assisted me to clarify my thinking and goals around my priorities"

More Appointment Slots

You said
"we wanted more careers appointments."

We responded
Last year we started to offer Drop In sessions Monday to Wednesday, and Tuesdays at City campus. This has meant that we last year we were able to increase the number of careers advice sessions offered by nearly 30%.

Easier Bookings

You said
"The previous booking system was frustrating, particularly as you couldn’t see appointments coming up in the future."

We responded
This year we are really pleased that we have moved to the myCareer portal, and these has made bookings much easier

City Campus

You said
"Can we have Careers appointments and events at City campus?"

We responded
Careers Drop In now runs at City campus on Wednesday – please see stand up plasma for times. This year (2019-20) we have also been running Careers workshops at City campus Both Careers Drop In and workshops have been well attended so we will continue to build on these.

Careers workshops and events

Careers workshops 252 workshops were delivered by the Careers team in 2018/9, an increase of 23% since the previous year.

You were highly positive about the workshops delivered by the Careers team- 99% said that the workshop had met its objective either ‘very much so’ (85%) or ‘to some extent’ (14%)

You said:

‘I liked the delivery of the session – used real life contexts and related it back to questions’

‘very well presented, interactive through questions and very useful feedback’

‘very informative, good links and ideas’

You Said

"we would like to see more employability events delivered by employers"

We responded

We have invited employers such as Enterprise Rentacar, Cap Gemini and HSBC to deliver sessions on Application skills, commercial Awareness, and Boosting your employability. However these have not generally been well attended, which is unfortunate when we are working directly with those employers. We will continue to discuss this with the SU to agree a way forward, and please let us know your thoughts directly.

The Worcester Award

The Worcester Award has remained popular, with over 200 students completing this year.

Another development this year was the introduction of the Worcester Award Platinum, a new leadership award. This was very well received with 100% students both enjoying  the experience and feeling  that it would benefit them in the future.

‘Seeing the leadership and managerial practices in practice will definitely enhance my employability in the future’

You said

"Can we complete the log book online"

We responded

The Worcester Award is now fully online through myCareer. One unexpected consequence of completing the award online and verifying the activities as you go, is that a large number of you have asked for different sections of the award to be verified earlier in the academic year than previously. Unfortunately this has meant that at times a backlog has built up and you may have had to wait for a week or so to have activities approved. We are now aware of this and have taken actions to address this.

Careers Fair

The Business Careers Fair in 2018 was attended by 26 companies and 200 students. Of these, 90% found the event useful.

You said

"We would like a bigger events with a wider range of employers. We would prefer it to be at St Johns campus."

We responded

The fair in October 2019 was moved to the Sports Hall and we endeavoured to attract a wider range of employers. We also merged with the Study Abroad fair so that 2nd year students could find out about Study abroad at the same time as placements. We were very pleased to double the size of the fair both in terms of exhibitors (60) and students (nearly 500). Your feedback from this event suggested that some of you would have liked to have seen more employers relevant to your subject, and we will work on that for next year.
