Supporting Employability at Worcester

Supporting Employability at Worcester

Careers and employability related activities are delivered both within and outside the curriculum.
We work closely with the Careers link tutor within each academic department to share information about the needs of the department and to share information about job vacancies and other careers events which may be useful for staff and students
We will endeavour to support any member of staff delivering careers and employability sessions by providing relevant materials or activities

Curriculum Based Activities

We aim to work with academic departments to embed careers and employability skills within programmes of study wherever possible. We try to be as flexible and responsive as possible to ensure that that the careers provision is relevant and timely to the students.  Careers sessions can be delivered and built upon throughout the curriculum, and the following indicates sessions we could potentially deliver at different levels.

Level 4

  • Introduction to the Careers Service
  • Making the most of your time at university (developing employability skills)
  • How to use the career resources

This session is often most effectively run in the Careers Centre itself, but due to space constraints, the maximum number of students per session is restricted to 15.

Level 5

  • Options after graduation
  • Making yourself employable

This session can be delivered in a variety of ways but is usually most effective when using examples of real employers and vacancies to relate student attributes to employer needs

Level 6

  • Making yourself employable
  • Career and Life Planning (Hawkins’ Windmills materials)
  • The graduate job market and how to tap in to it
  • CVs
  • Application forms
  • Interviews and selection centres.

The above can be delivered through a variety of materials including real life examples, role plays, games, quizzes etc. All session will be interactive and student centred. We are very flexible in our delivery, so if you have any other ideas, please give us a ring to discuss further!

Assessed modules; the UMSC 2010/3010 Careers and Personal Development  is run jointly by the Business School and the Careers Advisory Service and provides an opportunity for students to reflect upon their skills and develop strategies for moving on.
