We work with Institutes to embed career and employability skills within programmes of study wherever possible. We try to be as flexible and responsive as possible to ensure that the input is relevant and timely to the students.
Experience shows us that one-off or stand alone sessions which are not embedded within the programmes have limited value to students. All programmes should consider the nature of input required from the careers service and that any careers or employability activities are embedded within the courses’ learning outcomes and assessment processes.
We will try to promote deeper learning by employing a range of active learning techniques such as group activities, reflective audits, games and interactive activities. We will endeavour to keep these as close to real life as possible, for example by the use of employers, alumni , case studies, current job vacancies etc.
Although we can deliver sessions within the curriculum, our resources are limited and it may be more appropriate for academic staff to deliver these sessions.
The careers service will work with the Institutes to provide a bank of resources which may be used directly or customised as appropriate.
