Large Group Teaching, 27th September 2011
This session will look at ways in which large group can be designed such that they generate engaging student learning experience. Participants will have the opportunity to review a range of tools, resources and strategies. Useful background information for the session can be found at http://www.keele.org.uk/docs/PreparingToTeach.pdf (Chapter 2).
Small Group Teaching, 11th October 2011
Small group teaching can be a wonderful experience for both students and tutor; this session looks at managing group dynamics, the role of the facilitator (and how to improve) and introduces some interesting techniques. Effective Feedback, 19th October 2011
How do you like to get yours? - Feedback is supposedly central to the learning process, it seems however to cause anxiety for both givers and receivers. How then should feedback be communicated and how can we help to ensure that it is received and used in the way that it was intended. Plagiarism and Turnitin, 7th November 2011
This session will look at practices that can be used to help reduce the occurrence of plagiarism and also the online plagiarism detection tool known as Turnitin. Work Based Learning in the Curriculum, 22nd November 2011
Workbased learning has now been established a valid approach to Higher Education. As the population of younger adults declines, HEIs in the UK will increasingly need to look to those in work for their students. This session will look at work-based learning and how it can be placed within curriculum structures
Academic Tutoring, 1st December 2011
This session will explore the University’s’ new policy on academic tutoring, it will share effective practice and generate ideas and inspiration for the development of academic tutoring programmes.
Inclusivity, 12th December 2011
This session will raise participants’ awareness of the potential barriers faced by disabled learners in study and work placement; help participants identify ways in which their teaching can be made more inclusive;provide a brief update on the most recent developments of the Equality Act 2010 and its relevance to your own practice and introduce on-line resources to support inclusive practice.
