Supporting Student Learning Conference 2009

Welcome to the website for the 8th Annual University of Worcester Learning and Teaching Conference, 18th June 2009, hosted by the Academic Development and Practice Unit, in the University's Conference Centre.

The title for this year’s conference is “Supporting Student Learning’. This year’s conference see the largest number of workshops/sessions presented so far at this annual event. The conference covers a wide breadth of the aspects of learning, teaching and assessment, from the purely practical to the theoretical. Developing Higher Education and our understanding of it demands creativity and to so we have asked our key note speakers to focus on Creativity in Higher Education.

We will put all updates here on the website as and when they happen.

I have pleasure in letting you know that Lewis Elton and James Wisdom will be the key note speakers at this year’s learning and teaching conference.

Lewis Elton is emeritus professor at UCL’s Centre for the Advancement of Learning and Teaching. He has led the way, during a distinguished career, towards greater student centered learning.  In 2005 he received the Times Higher Lifetime Achievement Award.  Lewis has an entry in Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lewis_Elton .  At the conference Lewis will discuss assessing creativity and assessing creatively.

James Wisdom is a consultant specialising in educational development in Higher Education. He has worked extensively in the area of course evaluation, student consultation and feedback.  James has been a co-author on several books his most recent being Developing Creativity in Higher Education: An imaginative curriculum.

Call for papers:

This email represents the first call for papers and workshops. We invite you to submit, titles and short outlines for presentation of approximately 45 minutes. For papers the format will be 30 minutes plus 15 minutes of discussion.  Workshops should run for 45 minutes and involve active participation of the attendees. 

Papers and workshops are welcomed that share the outcomes of recently funded projects, demonstrate and discuss interesting or new recent in practice, and those that discuss the findings of higher education research and scholarship.

The deadline for the submission of abstracts for the conference is the 30th March 2009.
