Jan’s nursing career of 36 years spans across a wide range of specialities in the NHS including acute and long-term conditions, plus Advanced Clinical Practice in specialist cancer care and palliative care. Jan has experience of working within a wide range of multi-disciplinary and interprofessional teams across acute and community healthcare settings. Jan also has experience of leadership and management, service development and as a NHS practice educator. Jan is proud to be a NMC registered nurse, registered nurse teacher, and qualifications and experience in advanced communication skills.

Jan is passionate about health and social care, especially working collaboratively within an interprofessional team in the pursuit of a person-centred approach to care. Jan also has a keen interest in anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology, and how this applies to managing health conditions.

Teaching Interests

Having joined the School of Allied Health and Community team as a lecturer at the University in November 2021, Jan enjoys teaching and sharing her knowledge and experience across the Foundation Year in Healthcare (Level 3), the Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care (Level 4 & 5), and the Masters Healthcare Management and Leadership (Level 7).

Jan is module lead for:

FDHS1217 – Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology

FDHS2009 –Understanding Health Conditions in Person-centred Practice

MHML4004 – Individual Negotiated Learning

Jan also teaches on HEAL0004 Becoming a Healthcare Professional, HEAL0002 Science for Healthcare, MHML4003 Challenging and Enhancing Service Delivery, FDHS1216 Human Development across the Life Course.

Research Interests

Jan's main research interest is communication and collaboration within an interprofessional team in the pursuit of a person-centred approach to care. With this in mind, her Masters dissertation critically evaluated this approach to care within a Multi-Disciplinary Team.
